About SoundTester
Free, fast audio tests that work in any modern browser, with nothing to install and no sign-up.
What it is
SoundTester has 19 tools for checking speakers, headphones, microphones and your hearing, plus generators for tones, noise and test files. Each tool does one job, works straight away, and explains what your result means and how to fix what it finds.
How it works
Every sound is generated live in your browser with the Web Audio API. Tones and sweeps are synthesized to the exact frequency, noise is created mathematically so it loops without a click, and microphone analysis happens on your device. The only audio files are a few short spoken channel labels (“Left”, “Right”…).
Accuracy
Test signals are generated precisely in the browser. What you hear also depends on your operating system’s audio settings and your hardware: sound card, speakers, headphones and microphone. The hearing tests are screenings, not medical diagnoses, and the decibel meter is approximate unless you calibrate it. Each page explains its own limits.
Privacy
Nothing you record or measure leaves your device. See the privacy policy.
